Christine Collins (Angelina Jolie) is a single mother working in 1928 Los Angeles when her son goes missing. A boy is returned to her months later by the police, and she begins to suspect that the boy returned to her is not the same boy she gave birth to. Joined by a local activist Reverend Briegleb (John Malkovich), Christine battles for justice against the corrupt L.A.P.D. while she continues to search for her child. As a result, Christine is slandered by the powers that be, and painted as an unfit mother. In this town, a woman who challenges the system is putting her life on the line. Jolie gives an authentic, anguished performance, and the on-screen tragedy is quite disturbing, largely because of its basis in reality. Inspired by actual events that occurred in 1920s-era Los Angeles.

Zack and Miri Make a Porno
Posted by Jaya at 10:18 PM
As its explicit title suggests, Kevin Smith's ZACK AND MIRI MAKE A PORNO is a foul-mouthed and filthy film that probably isn't fit for the very young, the very old, or the easily offended. But for those who enjoy Smith's brand of humor, this raunchy but romantic comedy could be the perfect date movie (though perhaps not for a first date). With mountains of past-due bills piling up, Zack (Seth Rogen, KNOCKED UP) and his roommate/childhood friend Miri (Elizabeth Banks, SCRUBS) aren't sure how they're going to stay in their Pittsburgh apartment. But a chance encounter at their 10-year reunion gives them the idea to make a porn movie. When it comes time for the friends to do the deed, they realize that perhaps they're more than just friends.

Dear Zachary: A Letter to a Son About His Father

30.10.08
When Kurt Kuenne's childhood friend Andrew Bagby is murdered, he sets out to make a documentary showing Andrew's infant son, Zachary, what his father was like. But there's a twisted wrinkle to this story: Andrew's likely murderer is the boy's mother.
Kuenne hit the road immediately after learning of Andrew's murder in 2001, interviewing Andrew's relatives and friends everywhere from the United Kingdom to the hospital in Pennsylvania where Andrew had just begun his residency. Meanwhile Andrew's accused murderer, Shirley Turner, had fled to Canada before facing charges, and Andrew's parents, David and Kate, moved there to ensure her extradition and trial. Soon after, Turner discovered she was pregnant with Andrew's child, and David and Kate turned their focus to ensuring they would get custody of their only grandchild. Dear Zachary's emotional intimacy is its greatest strength, and enough to get it through sections that seem more manipulative than meaningful.

There is a doctor and his wife (respectively played by Mark Ruffalo and Julianne Moore). The doctor is suddenly blind, forced Unable to conceive of life without him, Moore's character feigns blindness and joins him in the grimy high-security institution where visually impaired citizens are kept. The story is telling about their attempt to survive in the rotting facility, which quickly falls into disrepair and chaos.
Meirelles's movie, which essentially functions as an allegory for societal collapse, is an alarming and often distressing look at the dark side of human nature. The director often saturates the film with milky white color, reflecting the bright light the blind see when the condition besets them. An atmosphere of tangible dread manifests itself as BLINDNESS progresses, and the ugly scenes of rape and brawling, largely caused by the meager food rationing among the blind, makes for emotional viewing.

Bill travels to Israel, England, the Netherlands, Vatican City, and across America, speaking to people about faith and religion in the very funny documentary RELIGULOUS. Maher makes it clear from the start that he is not a fan of religion and does not believe in God, and he has fun skewering people who do--including Christians, Jews, Muslims, and Mormons, rabbis, priests, politicians, scientists, evangelical ministers, and even a preacher whose church is a converted truck. He also visits such places as the Holy Land Experience in Orlando, Florida, where he interviews the actor who plays Jesus in a live show there, and the Red Light District in Amsterdam, notorious for its legalized drugs and prostitution. Maher's RELIGULOUS uses humor--and lots of cynicism and sarcasm--to examine controversial theories and topics that people feel very strongly about, no matter what side of the fence they are on. In addition to making audiences laugh, RELIGULOUS will make them think.
